MUSIC & OYSTERS FOR WILDLIFE 2010

our Annual Fun(d)-Raiser

SATURDAY, JANUARY 16, 2010

Held at the Sewee Outpost - 4853 Hwy 17N in Awendaw, SC

YOU did it again!! YOU came on a cold, wet Saturday to support our work and helped us gross over $33,000.00 in this MAJOR fundraising effort for us. According to those who came, the oysters were the best ever (thank you Carolina Seafood and all your local oystermen!) and the music was as hot as those shellfish!

The Blue Dogs returned as the headliners, and Papa Futch made his annual appearance with son Hank. Ed and Sarah Hunnicutt opened the day as the oysters were laid upon the tables. Red Dog Ramblers, Cravin' Melon, the Occasional Milkshake (with Mark Bryan, Danielle Howle, and others), and the Whisperjets kept the sounds going for hours.

We would not be so successful with this event without the support of many community members who were our sponsors. Please thank these companies when you have a chance:

East Cooper Auto Pros, Sewee Dental Care, BB&T, Blue Waters Commercial Pools, Tamsberg Plumbing, The Nature Conservancy, Patrick Smith Insurance, Piggly-Wiggly Grace Bridge Wines, Barrier Island Ecotours, All-Out Adventures, Lowcountry Retirement Services, CCBG, Charleston Original Sauces, Driftwood Plantation and Ben Moise Catering.

Stage Presence Event Rentals, Awendaw Green, A Southern Bartender, Palmetto Brewery, Sewee Outpost, Glenn Bagley catering and Ben Moise Catering are our major vendors who work with us each year to make sure you have a wonderful experience and we could not do this without them.

We also are indebted to the many companies and individuals who donated items for our auctions. This was the best year ever with the beautiful Swinging Porch Bed, autographed guitar, and many, many wonderful get-away weekends and opportunities to get out in nature! Thank you to all of you who bid on these items and we wish you much fun as you enjoy them.

Thanks again to all of you who care about our natural habitats along the coast and want to make sure it is there for our children.

Tour of Bulls Island with Rudy Mancke

We just held the 14th Tour with Rudy and had a wonderful turn-out, despite the swarms of mosquitoes!

Patrons were treated to a very interestingl tour of the island with Rudy's interpretation, and had views of the natural world that many had never seen.

Along Alligator Alley, we came upon a 11-foot (or more) alligator trying to get a meal of a yellow-bellied slider. This time the slider won and was able to get away.

Rudy also kept everyone engaged on Boneyard Beach
